The 'earthdome' house provides
a comfortable and permanent
living space yet is made from
little more than mud, earth and
the labour of the local community
New ideas in action to give orphan
children a home and a chance in life
NEST is a charity that works to bring
new sustainable house building ideas
and technologies to the developing
world. Our aim is to give communities
- specifically children and orphans -
quality permanent houses to live in.
A house of earth - could it be the
best solution for millions of children?
An earth house, can be built in two
days by a family of four. A house can
be built for under £200 using little in
resources other than the rock and soil
it is built on. Yet it can last decades if
cement is added to the soil mix or if
the exterior is plastered.
The aims of the New Start Trust are simple:
Our plans in 2007
As well as ongoing projects in Africa, this autumn NEST also plan to raise awareness of the unique Adobe
housing technologies by building a
publicity site in Colney Heath, Hertfordshire near London. This will be
used to introduce our ideas to individuals, corporates, NGO's, charities, celebrities and Government bodies.
