Contact The New Start Trust
Established in 1993 to relieve
hardship and distress of orphans
and street children in the
developing world.

The main inspiration and driving
force behind the charity is Steve
Mills, who is the Director of
A1  Design Consultants - a
successful family business in the
British construction industry.

Our mission; to build sustainable,
environmentally friendly homes
for orphaned or disadvantaged
children around the world.

In partnership with existing
organisations, we aim to provide
these youngsters with the
building blocks of life – shelter,
water and power.

Our vision: a safer, more
prosperous life for these children.
About NEST - tomorrow's building technology solving today's housing crisis
Constructing real homes, creating communities,
improving children's lives
Around the world 500 million children live in temporary  accommodation.
Many are victims of natural disasters - earthquakes, hurricanes or
drought. Others are refugees - the innocent victims of wars and regional
conflicts. What so many of them share is a squalid and undignified life
living in so-called temporary housing.

Whether they be tents or corrugated iron sheds, these homes only create
ill health and despair in the community. Baking in the summer, cold in
the winter, this poor quality housing persists for years after the initial
crisis - at least in part due to lack of local resources including building
materials and skilled labour.

NEST was founded to help give homeless children a place to live and be
safe. As experts in the construction business we have researched
various techniques and proven building models to find an economically
and environmentally sound solution to this housing crisis. We believe
that combining  traditional ‘earth home’ building techniques with the best
modern technology and ideas can enable communities themselves to
build comfortable quality permanent homes. And these require little
more than the earth they stand on to build.

NEST trains volunteers to teach communities in the developing world
how to build these permanent and comfortable earth homes. We give
priority to projects that provide homes for orphan children. NEST also
provides funding for the basic materials for the homes and works in
partnership with other established professional charities and
organisations to deliver ongoing education and training to equip the
children and their communities for an independent and sustainable
living.

Our supporters
NEST has a range of sponsors who help us to finance our work. Key
supporters include:

NEST is supported by the A1 Group / A1 Design Consultants

NEST's other founding sponsor is

Merchants

NEST is grateful for the support of The Onaway Trust,  which was
established in 1974 with the overall objective to relieve poverty and
suffering. Onaway has supported an extensive number of projects
worldwide, many of which have grown to become successful,
sustainable organisations in their own right. We hope that NEST follows
in this tradition of success and growth.
